The 8th annual Crooked Antler Beerfest, held on a frosty February day, brought warmth, laughter, and exceptional brews to our tight-knit community. This year’s festival once again celebrated the art of brewing, with a blind taste-testing competition taking center stage. As the temperature dropped, spirits soared, and the winners of the day proved that great beer knows no bounds.
The undisputed star of the Beerfest was a newcomer to the scene, Zach Lawlor. Zach’s first-place entry, Lollipop Forest PB & J, a fruited sour from Deciduous Brewing, stole the show. Its playful blend of fruity notes and a nostalgic nod to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches delighted the judges, solidifying Zach’s spot as a rising star in the brewing world.
Coming in second was a familiar face—Cam Keefe, a long-standing participant and Beerfest original. Cam brought a stout that captivated everyone’s taste buds: Black Gold Vanilla from The Drowned Lands Brewery. With its luxurious texture and a perfectly balanced hint of vanilla, it was a brew that exemplified expertise and craftsmanship. Cam’s contribution reminded everyone why he’s a festival favorite.
Rounding out the top three, Zach Lawlor made another splash with his third-place entry. He impressed once again with Nightmares On Nightmares On Nightmares, a bold, complex stout from Kettlehead Brewing. Its rich, dark flavors left a lasting impression and proved that Zach’s brewing prowess isn’t limited to one beer style.

The potluck spread added another layer of delight to the event, with an eclectic array of homemade dishes that paired beautifully with the array of beers. From slow-cooked stews to freshly baked bread, the shared table embodied the communal spirit that makes the Crooked Antler Beerfest more than just a competition.
Of course, no Beerfest would be complete without the ceremonial Christmas tree. Although the holiday season was behind us, the tree stood(on fire) as a symbol of warmth and togetherness, twinkling with lights and sparking joy among attendees. It was around this glowing(fire) centerpiece that stories were swapped, toasts were raised, and plans for next year’s Beerfest began to brew.
As the day came to a close, there was a shared sense of anticipation for the future. The Crooked Antler Beerfest is not just an event—it’s a tradition, a celebration of creativity, and a reminder of the bonds we share. Here’s to Zach, Cam, and all the amazing brewers who make this festival so special. Thank you Cory for hosting this event at your home. This event would be what it is without you. Until next year, cheers to cold days, warm friends, and extraordinary beer! 🍻
